Answer: Putting new wood with old wood is not a good idea. My theory is that the old wood has lost it's natural flexibility. When they were new the wood absorbed and lost moisture normally. After many years of this, it finally lost it's ability to do so. The wheel then remains loose. The new wood will not cure the problem for long. It may cause the hub center hole to be out of center.
